Trims

The Studio Waits!

I have mono at the present, so my studio sits idle waiting, waiting for me to come paint, dye, and stitch!  All simply because I'm just too tired to do anything, but the diagnosis sure does explain a lot.

John moved the plastic drawer units into my studio two weeks ago, it's so nice to have all of my vintage yummies within arms distance now.

Vintage pink trim, there's a few things left in the office that need to be moved into the studio otherwise it's all in there now and it's a matter of just getting busy producing some new work.

I love black and white zippers, somewhere in one of those plastic drawers there's a black and white houndstooth zipper that's just wanting to be stitched onto a beautiful surface!

Madder Root Dyed Vintage Lace and Trims

Vintage lace and trims I picked up at a yard sale this summer, some are antiques. Everything has been scoured by washing twice in hot water - to get rid of the smell, then boiled with soda ash for two hours. The items were then mordanted with alum and soaked for two days in the alum vat, I then dyed everything with Madder Root Extract I left them to soak in the madder root vat for two days. The brighter yellow items are made of nylon hence the color.

Goodies

I've been uploading some new natural dyed goodies to my etsy.com store today, they are very lovely! I have more than I can use at the present and am dyeing more - spring has sprung at the Prairie Fibers Studios! Btw I didn't use the plants listed to acquire the colors, as many of these plants are threatened or endangered. Rather I make my colorways based upon my favorite prairie plants!

Natural Dyed Trims Etc

I just put a bunch of naturally dyed silk ribbon, trims, and yarn bundles on my etsy.com store You can view them over here http://www.prairiefibers.etsy.com/ I put up spring colors which really help to beat the winter doldrums!

Each bundle consists of 18-22 strands that are approx 1 yard in length. This is a photo of three bundles, all dyed with cochineal and or cutch! Some bundles contain pearl cotton that has also been dyed with natural dyes.
