Finally a Break Through!

Pet Cemetary

Pet Cemetary

To say that my husband was concerned about me when I did a sudden 180 into metal and leather would be an understatement! When I made this announcement in my newsletter I even lost subscribers, lol.

After spending the afternoon yesterday hand-hammering some sheets of copper it finally came to me today.

I want to make more of these pieces: Pet Cemetery, The Deer Slayer. Spring Time.

I was walking past Spring Time yesterday afternoon and stopped to take a long look at the piece, remembering how much fun it was to assemble the piece. The other two pieces were a complete joy to create.

The great part is now I have the tools to not only make my own hand-hammered copper I also have the appropriate torch system to create metal shrine boxes, but I'm also no longer limited to using wood as my armature.

So this is what you'll be seeing in future videos, metal smithing, leatherwork, stitching, beading, painting, natural dyes, rust dyeing, etc. In other words, I'm going full-on mixed media!

It feels great to finally have a new vision, to be out of my slump! Happy creating.

Day 14 Cleaning the Studio

IMG_2018.jpg

Making headway in the main studio, my sewing machine if finally on my sewing table once again!

The marigold dye vat is looking gross, tomorrow I’ll be adding a heater and an air bubbler to the vat.

Lots of stuff to accomplish in the next two weeks like finish cleaning my studio and the family room, and getting my office and the dining room dealt with as well. I’m turning my office into a weaving and spinning room (I have several looms).

I’ve decided that unless a body of work I’m working on requires hand spun or hand woven fabrics that weaving and spinning are now officially relegated to the land of “that’s my hobby” so I will have a creative outlet that doesn’t also have the pressure of needing it to make income as well, this is very important for one’s creative mental health.

I’ve been hankering to do some beadwork but unfortunately me beads are blocked off by a pile of stuff that needs to be dealt with, there are days when I wish I could clone myself times three to get it all done!

Earth and Sky Starts Monday!!!

Have you always wanted to create an original body of art, but didn't know where to start,or thought it might be boring?

It doesn't have to be hard, or boring!

How do I know this? Because I have created no less than ten separate bodies of work in the past 20+ years.

So maybe you're thinking "But Kimberly you've been at this for a long time, I'll never be able to do what you do." That's okay I don't expect you to do what I do. In fact I believe that by learning what I have learned, about creating a series, you'll surpass me and by a long shot!

In this eight week class you will learn how to use color, design, study landscapes, etc., to create your own body of original art. I will also discuss how to display your art for maximum presentation.

All Class content is downloadable so you get to keep it for life! We also have a FaceBook classroom where I live stream, you can ask questions, share your creations, struggles, and more.

Join me for Earth and Sky, where we will explore color, texture, landscapes, and more, to create your own unique body of art!

Too Cheerful

IMG_7078.jpg

Well I've been working on my series At the Marsh and somehow this bright and cheerful piece came out of the end of my brush.

It's too cheerful for my current series, which is more somber in tone, so I'm setting it aside to be stitched later. In the meantime I have gobs of stitching to do in anticipation of two solo shows I'm hanging the first week of January.
